In November this year, electricity consumption grew by 2.6 percent to 99.37 billion units. Whereas in the month of November last year, this consumption was 96.88 billion units and in November, 2019, it was 93.94 billion units.

Electricity consumption in the country increased by nearly 1.3 per cent to 34.23 billion units (BU) in the first 10 days of December as compared to the same period last year. This information has been received from the new figures of electricity consumption released by the Ministry of Power.
According to the data of the Ministry of Power, the consumption of electricity in the same period last year was 33.78 billion units. The electricity consumption in the entire month of December, 2020 was 105.62 billion units. Whereas in December 2019, it was 101.08 billion units.
Electricity supply increased compared to last year
Experts say that the main reason for the improvement in power demand in December is the spurt in economic activity across the country. In the first 10 days of December, the peak power demand or the highest supply of electricity during the day stood at 169.12 GW.
This supply was recorded at 165.42 GW in the same period of December 2020. The peak power demand for the whole of December, 2020 was 182.78 GW as compared to 170.49 GW in December, 2019.

There was a drop in electricity consumption due to the lockdown
After the second wave of Kovid-19 in April this year, many states had imposed a lockdown to prevent the infection from deciding. Due to which there was a decline in the demand for commercial and industrial electricity. These curbs were gradually removed after the reduction in Kovid infection.
In May this year, electricity consumption had increased by 6.6 percent year-on-year to 108.80 units. In May, 2020 it was 102.08 billion units. In June, electricity consumption increased by almost nine percent to 114.48 billion units. In June, 2020 it was 105.08 billion units.
