In the last financial year, the government left no stone unturned to give a boost to the economy. As far as the purchase of any kind of goods or services by the government itself is concerned, then in the financial year 2022-23 this figure has been more than Rs 2 lakh crore.

Government ministries and departments have made huge purchases of goods and services in the last financial year. While this helped small and medium industries, the country’s economy has also got a boost. According to the data of the government’s online procurement portal ‘Government e-Marketplace’ (GeM), government procurement has crossed Rs 2 lakh crore.
The Modi government had started the Gem portal to make the procurement of government departments easier. At the same time, preference is given to buy products of small and medium scale industries on this portal. This helps the MSME sector of the country to get large orders at one go.
Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra on top
Gujarat has been at the top in terms of buying and selling through the Gem portal. After this, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh are such states which are at the top of this list. Everything from office stationery to cars, computers and furniture is available on this portal.
There are more than 60 million sellers on Gem who sell their goods and service products here. At the same time, more than 63,000 government buyer organizations are also registered on it. At present, Government Ministries, Departments, Public Sector Companies, State Governments, Central Armed Security Forces are allowed to make purchases on this portal.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself has praised this purchase from the Gem portal. PM Modi says that Gem India shows the energy of Indian people and industries. It has made many citizens prosperous, as well as given access to good markets.

Gem becoming a reliable platform
Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal also says that the Gem portal has emerged as a reliable platform for both sellers and buyers. In reality, it is the ‘Gem of India’. In the financial year 2021-22, goods and services worth Rs 1.06 lakh crore were purchased from this platform.
