Due to the rise in the price of petrol, there is a jump in the demand for CNG cars at the entry level. Currently, the running cost of a CNG car is Rs 2.1 per kilometer, while for petrol it is close to Rs 5.
Due to the increase in the price of petrol and diesel, people’s electric vehicle (Electric Vehicles), but there are some fundamental problems with this segment. Due to this CNG based passenger car at the entry level (CNG Vehicles) is seeing an uptick in demand. In the month of April, the demand for domestic CNG personal passenger vehicle more than doubled to 27,000 units. This report is from auto intelligence firm Jato Dynamics. The operation cost of a CNG car is very low, due to which it is luring the buyers. Speaking to Economic Times, Shashank Srivastava, senior executive of the country’s largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki, said that as long as the price of petrol is between Rs 105-110, CNG cars will be 40-50 percent cheaper. The running cost of a CNG car is Rs 2.1 per kilometer, while for petrol it is close to Rs 5.
The popular Maruti Suzuki model is available with CNG options like Wagon R, Eeco and Dzire. Auto industry experts also say that if there was no semiconductor problem at present, then the demand for CNG cars would have seen an increase.
CNG car contribution estimated to reach 20 percent
Tata Motors estimates that the share of CNG cars in its total sales will be close to 20 percent in the next 3-5 years. Tata Motors will launch its CNG model in the hatchback, compact sedan segment. Hyundai India also expects that the demand for CNG cars at the entry level will continue to grow.
Number of CNG petrol pumps doubled in two years
Ravi Bhatia, President, Jato Dynamics said that as per the new Cafe Norms, the average CO2 emission for Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) has been kept at 130 grams per kilometer. In such a situation, it is necessary for the car manufacturers to focus on the CNG segment and to meet the target of carbon emission. The government is also emphasizing on opening new CNG stations in the country. In the last two years, the number of CNG stations in 250 cities of the country has doubled to reach beyond 3800. In the next two years, about 10,000 CNG stations are expected to be set up in 300 cities of the country.
Top 5 Selling Models in April
Talking about the top-5 model in the month of April on the basis of sales, 10037 units of Wagon R of Maruti Suzuki were sold. Maruti’s Eeco sold 4084 units, Maruti’s DZire sold 2967 units, Hyundai’s Aura sold 2466 units and Tata Tiago sold 2451 units.
