Uttarakhand: Devotees will not be able to take bath in Haridwar on Makar Sankranti today, every foot will remain sealed; force deployed

To prevent those coming for bathing from outside states and districts, the police had started tightening the boundaries of the district from Thursday itself.

Even after this, thousands of devotees had reached Harki Paidi and other ghats. Devotees bathe in the Ganges and do worship. By 5 o’clock in the evening there was a bath ignoring the rules of COVID. However, the police has declared a zero zone by putting a barrier in the Harki Paidi area to stop bathing on Makar Sankranti.

COVID cases are coming fast in Haridwar

COVID cases are increasing rapidly in Haridwar. Since January 1, 2187 infected have been found in the district. In the last 13 days, maximum 429 patients have been found on Thursday itself. Let us tell that every year on the occasion of Makar Sankranti, lakhs of people gather to take a bath on Harki Paidi. Last year also, five lakh devotees had taken a bath during the Corona period, but this time the district administration has banned bathing three days before Makar Sankranti. Through social media and the police of other states, information has been conveyed to the devotees there about the ban on bathing in the Ganges in Haridwar.

People first reached Haridwar for bath

A day before Makar Sankranti on Harki Paidi, thousands of people have taken bath as usual. Although the crowd was less compared to other days, the number of people taking bath from morning till 5 pm remained in the thousands. Many people have already reached Haridwar for Makar Sankranti bath. One floor of Pandit Deen Dayal Parking near CCR Tower was filled with vehicles of outsiders.
