Car Bumper Rules: There was a time when it was a matter of pride to have crash guards (bumpers) in cars. Bumper guards were used for the safety of the vehicles, so that the car does not get damaged during the collision. However, now the use of bumper guards has been banned. Despite this, you must have come across some cars which have a rear bumper guard.
Now the question arises whether the rules are different for installing front and rear bumper guards in cars? Is it legal to have rear bumper guard? You will find the answer here.
Why was the ban on bumpers imposed?
Earlier, airbag safety was not given importance in cars. However, now the government has made it mandatory to have two airbags in the vehicles. Due to this, the prices of cars have also increased. The problem with the bumper guards is that they make it difficult for the airbags to deploy in case of an accident or a forceful collision. In such a situation, due to the bumper guard, the airbag sensors of the car do not reduce properly. In such a situation, the danger for the passengers sitting inside increases. For this reason, the use of bumpers has been banned.

Can bumpers be fitted at the rear?
A challan has to be given for fitting a bumper guard at the rear of the car as well. That is, if you are going to install a crash guard at the rear of the vehicle for the sake of safety, then get ready to pay the challan. If you go against the rules and get any changes done to the car, then there is a provision of fine for it. At the same time, there is also a risk of injury to the pedestrians due to the front or rear bumper guard fitted in the car.
How much challan will be deducted for applying bumper
On installing bumper guard in the car, challan may have to be filled under the Motor Vehicle Act 1988. For this, a fine of Rs 1000 to Rs 5000 can be charged from you. Apart from this, if the traffic police is able to install a bumper guard in your vehicle, it will be removed on the spot. That is, along with the invoice, you will also have to bear the loss of the cost of the bumper guard.
