BMW iX SUV Electric Launch in India: After a long wait, German multinational luxury vehicle manufacturer BMW has introduced its electric car in India. Finally, the company has officially launched its first BMW IX all-electric SUV in India. The iX is BMW’s first electric vehicle in the country to come under the CBU (Completely Built Unit) route. It is believed that the BMW IX will compete with the Mercedes-Benz EQC, Audi e-tron SUV and Sportback and Jaguar I-Pace in India.
BMW IX has been launched in India at a price of Rs 1.16 crore (ex-showroom). Built on an evolved electric-only architecture, the iX comes at the top of BMW’s range that serves as the company’s ‘technology flagship’.
BMW IX: Battery and Charging
The BMW iX xDrive 40 gets a battery pack of 76.6kWh. According to WLTP Cycles, the xDrive 40 has a claimed driving range of up to 425 km. BMW is offering a 2.3kW, single-phase charger for the domestic socket and an 11kW AC wall box charger as introductory offerings, as standard. Using a 2.3kW charger, the battery can be charged from 0 to 100 percent in 36 hours. The IX also supports DC fast charging and can charge the battery from 10 to 80 percent in 73 minutes at 50kW capacity.
BMW IX powertrain details
BMW iX xDrive 40 generates power of 326hp and peak torque of 630Nm. BMW claims that the xDrive 40 can sprint from 0-100kph in 6.1sec and has a top-speed of 200kph. The xDrive 40 gets a dual electric motor set-up with one motor on each axle, which gives it all-wheel drive.
The front of the IX gets double wishbone suspension, steering column, front and rear roll axles and unique individual damper control. The IX is based on an evolution of BMW’s CLAR platform which uses carbon fiber and aluminum in its construction. The aluminum used on the ix is mostly recycled.
Globally, the iX is also available in a high-spec xDrive 50 variant that generates 523hp and 765Nm of peak torque, with a driving range of up to 611km on a WLTP cycle. According to BMW, this version of the IX can accelerate from 0-100kph in 4.6 seconds.
Features of BMW IX
Talking about the features of the BMW iX, it has got great features like electrochromic panoramic glass roof, multi-function seats with memory and massage functions, bespoke leather upholstery, ambient lighting, BMW virtual assistant, heads-up display, wireless charging, Android Auto . Apart from this, it is equipped with Apple CarPlay, 4-zone climate control, 18-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, soft close door, surround-view camera, reversing assistant.
Safety features include multiple airbags, ABS with brake assist, cruise control with braking function, dynamic stability control (DSC), tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) and many driver assistance features like lane change warning with active return, blind spot detection. and Front Collision Warning, the iX also achieved a 5-star safety rating in the recent Euro NCAP crash test.
