The share of SUVs in the total sales of car manufacturers during 2022-23 was 43%. During the first 10 months (April-January) of 2023-24, it increased to 50.1%. Shashank Srivastava, Senior Executive Officer (Marketing and Sales), Maruti Suzuki India, gave this information. He said, 'If we look at the total car sales, the share of SUVs in it has crossed 50% for the first time. Wholesale sales were higher in January also because the inventory pipeline was greatly reduced. Wholesale sales were low in December 2023, but retail sales were high as auto companies reduced their supplies. Emphasis on retail sales through various promotion (discount) schemes. This happens every year in December because after the start of January, consumers do not want last year's stock with the dealers.
